Here I have discussed the benefits of using Paper wallets over other solutions. I have always recommended using paper wallets to beginners and intermediates. If you have already generated your paper wallet from bitaddress.org then let’s discuss how you can keep it secure for a longer period of time.

The 10 Strategies to secure your Bitcoin Paper Wallet.

  1. Always use the passphrase to access your private key. This is the most crucial step of all. This will make sure other people don’t get access your private key even if you have lost your paper wallet.
  2. Make sure you keep a softcopy saved in any cloud storage solution, for example, Google Drive. I highly recommend using Google cloud storage.
  3. You should mail a softcopy to yourself and make sure it remains there. Use Gmail account for this. I recommend google’s solutions for saving your paper wallets because Google provides a two-step verification method to their every solution.
  4. Enable two-step verification for your Google account where you have saved the softcopy of your wallet. This will make sure your account doesn’t get hacked. After two-step verification enabled, Google will always ask for an OTP (One Time Password) sent to your registered mobile, at the time of logging into your Google account.
  5. Print several copies of your bitcoin paper wallet and keep them at a secured place, a safe or someplace secret from your friends and family.
  6. Make sure you use a very high-quality paper for printing the paper wallet. I recommend using a photograph paper quality for this. The paper quality one uses for printing photographs last longer and doesn’t receive wears and tears as easily as the ordinary paper.
  7. I emphasize you use color printers for printing out your paper wallet.
  8. Laminate all your printed hard copies of the Paper wallet. This will add another layer of security to the step no. 6. Laminating your Paper wallet will make sure your wallet doesn’t get wet or get decayed over time. You should categorize this step as crucial.
  9. Never talk about your Paper Wallet with your friends and family. Keep it as a secret from the world out there. This is very important because sharing the information of your wallet with anyone makes you susceptible to getting socially hacked. Therefore think twice before you spill some words about the paper wallet you generated.
  10. Always destroy the old paper wallet, rather you should burn it before you decide to print another.

Conclusion.

At the end, I would like to assure you that even if you somehow, lost your wallet or got hacked socially or on the internet, the passphrase you generated at step no. 1 will still protect your private key. Since only you know the passphrase to your private key, anyone trying to access your private key will have to enter that passphrase. Therefore, you should enter a strong passphrase so that no one could socially hack you.

I am sure if you follow above steps then you are going to keep your paper wallet secured for any length of time.

Keep your paper wallets safe and dry! If you plan on using an Inkjet printer, this is especially important since even a tiny amount of moisture can make your wallet unreadable. These ultra-clear ziplock bags fit this folding design exactly.
